Coloring Books and Patellofemoral injuries.

Well, here’s to another resounding round of a Tuesday night workout. Note to self: next time eat more before going to work out, and eat at least an hour before class. Now that we got that straightened out. I think I did okay for not really having much to eat and dealing with sore lower extremities from walking all weekend. I’m going to start taking a pedometer with me to work.

I’m really glad I’m getting a lot of encouragement from the people in my class, because there are just some days where I can’t keep up, and instead of making it a competition, they root me on, it really, really helps me get through a tough workout.

My shirt looked like I jumped into a swimming pool.

Tonight, I had a protein shake to look forward to when I got home. (You know, to replace all those lost nutrients).

And  I got some new workout “equipment”. Okay, it’s just a shirt and some gloves, but here’s the up-side, push ups are easier (because I can grip the ground properly) and no more blisters. Woohoo!

IMG_20121009_140111I’m loving the Adidas gear.
Gloves. Check. Stretchy pants. Check. Good shoes. Check. Knee injury? Check.

Yup, it’s been bothering me. After an entire weekend of wearing not-so great shoes at work and running back and forth in the halls, my knees are swollen. I really wish the glucosamine I started taking would kick in soon. Until then, I need new work shoes. It made for a super painful workout, especially doing leap-frogs, up-downs (burpees), jump rope and lunges. I will fight through it!

On the up-side, we all sat with our backs against the wall, in a chair-position, and saw how long we could all hold it. (He made us do 1-2 minute repeats). It was one of the knee-strengthening exercises my doctor gave me when I found out about my initial injury.

Guess what else I got in the mail today??? Okay, it’s in the title, but I’m silly. The Anatomy Coloring Book! Oh, you thought I got something fun?

IMG_20121009_200140besides the fact that the guy on the cover looks like a stroke victim. Or bipolar.
A lot of nursing students and volunteers have recommended this book in Anatomy, so I thought I would give it a shot. I just didn’t know I was getting another textbook. I think this will really help me, since I am an extremely visual-tactile learner. NOW I have something to color when Kurt’s niece wants to color with me.

Speaking of Kurt, this is what’s going on in our bedroom right now…
IMG_20121009_200731this is totally what it looks like!
Oh how I love that man and how he enables my nerd-isms.

We started watching Batman: The Dark Night Rises. It’s drawn just like the comic books, which makes it so intriguing!
Oh, you didn’t know I’m a nerd? HA.

Other things I’m currently obsessed with:
Gangnam Style– Why can’t I get this song out of my head?!?

Short Change Hero by The Heavy– Which is the intro song to Borderlands 2, I can’t get enough of it, especially since it hasn’t hit mainstream media and they haven’t overplayed it (aka ruined it) like every other station in Los Angeles tends to do.

There you go, that’s my super-duper Tuesday night.

Tomorrow, if I feel like it, I’ll go ahead and post some new outfits, as well as a few on my wishlist. And since it’s supposed to be a cold, rainy day in Southern California (HA!), I’m going to bust out my crockpot.

Well, I Tried!

We went grocery shopping today and I tried to pull this business…

2012-10-01_17-37-34_533Notice anything?
Guess it didn’t work. *Hmph*

Today was my big Lecture Exam in Anatomy. I don’t think I did too well, but I didn’t do terrible either. It was kind of meh. I’m hoping (hoping!) that my awesome nursing-skills kick in after this and I nail the next few tests. It’s silly, right? I have to keep my head up!

Speaking of which, I’ve started to read “The Good Wife’s Guide: Embracing Your Role as a Help-Meet”. I was flipping through my Amazon, and stumbled across this how-to/self-enrichment book. Now, I know I’m not married, and I’m definitely not “housewife” material, but the reviews to this book drew me in because it’s based around strong family values, which I’m all about. I really like how the author takes a Christian view of her roles as a woman, and it goes along well with some of the sermons that have been taught at our church this week. I’m finding it a good read, and even though I’m not a wife or a mother, it gives me guidance as a young woman as to my role in the Christian faith. I also believe that when I get to that point in my life, it will set some good guidelines. Preventative medicine. ^.^

The Good Wife's Guide: Embracing Your Role as a Help Meet

Today, I’ve resolved to stop being lazy. Like really, I think I’m done sleeping in and laying around. I have too much to accomplish to just flop around the house. It’s one of the first lessons in “The Good Wife’s Guide.” Sleeping in is wasting your day and should be reserved for a once-a-week occasion. It’s almost selfish to sleep in and not spend your time doing something constructive. I agree! There are days where I wake up at ten and just feel guilty for doing so! And then I get flustered when I don’t have enough time on my hands. I think it’s a good idea to create this habit, and I think it will also aide me in my job hunt and school work.

So that’s my recommended reading for the week.

In about 30 minutes, I’m off to kickboxing!

2012-10-01_18-10-06_235Aren’t my shorts the best 80’s teal???

I have a whole bunch of stress to work off tonight! (Especially in this 106 degree weather!)

School has been stressful, and now they’re doing voluntary layoffs at my hospital. I’m getting nervous because I’m only working one or two days a week, but I need to keep my head up and push forward. Having a positive attitude and a workout routine has really helped with the stress. It’s just one of those times where you don’t know where you’re going, like you can’t see in the dark, but you just have to keep pushing forward.

This is what’s being sneaked into dinner! (I’m excited!) Seems like we’re possibly having Mediterranean food tonight! (Don’t tell Kurt, he hasn’t quite had the best experiences with Mediterranean.)

Has anyone seen Gangnam Style? I saw it for the first time ever this morning, and now I have it STUCK in my head!!! Then my friends sent me the Bill Nye version. I just about died!

So that’s my post for tonight!
Possible fancy dessert post tomorrow. ^__^

Fall? Hello? Are you there?

It’s a lovely 101 degrees Fahrenheit in Rancho Cucamonga today. And tomorrow? It’s going to be 106. *Ugh!* The first day of October and it’s going to be 106. Guess tomorrow I’m going to be holed up in Starbucks with a pumpkin frap and my laptop. (hehe!)

Hooray for the weekend! At the end of an (extremely!) busy week, I got to spend the entire weekend relaxing with Kurt.

I was late for the gym on Saturday morning (sad!) because I just could not, for the life of me, get going. So I arrived after my class started and instead spent 45 minutes on the treadmill, running. Not a bad trade off if I do say so myself. I ran about 4 miles. *Woot!*

After my gym session, Kurt and  I were off to Kula Revolving Sushi!

I’m probably one of those people who could eat their weight in sushi…

It was sooo good!

It’s now Sunday afternoon, I (finally) got to my kickboxing class this morning and really worked off that stress! Afterwards we ran down to one of our favorite sit-down Chinese restaurants (hey, I’m on an Asian kick) and had Honey Walnut Shrimp (as always!).

Now, time to study for my midterm/lab exam tomorrow morning. I feel a bit more prepared so I’m not as hyper-diligent about studying as I was last week (plus, I’m trying not to freak out again!)

Also, I am dying to go back to Disneyland! I think I’m hooked! They have all the Fall festivities going, and I just love the Haunted Mansion all decked out in Nightmare Before Christmas-style!
I’m very sad that the registration for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon is closed. I might try to make the Princess Half Marathon this year (my first half marathon!), but it’s a pretty steep price at $175.

Time to kick start a new week. Back to eating healthy, studying hard and working out!
Hold on to your hats and get ready for Monday!
