Early Weekend

So I’m trying to blog, but I currently have an irate cat on my chest…let’s see if I can do this.

Helloooooooooo!
This weekend is certainly off to an early start! We were up since 4:30 am because sleep is for the weak! (No, seriously though, after a week of getting sufficient rest, it was easy to wake up early). Promises of afternoon naps. The last couple weekends here in Southern California have been excruciatingly hot, so we’ve been having to get everything done before 10 am on the weekends. Here’s hoping this is the first weekend that we don’t have to run the air conditioning…

This week just flew by! I’ve been working through my no-sugar challenge and doing fairly well while adding some delicious vegetarian dishes to my recipe index. One of my favorite cookbooks right now is the Forks Over Knives (Kindle) cookbook (especially the chili!). I really appreciated the approach they took to clean eating, and the dishes that are presented in the cookbook are extremely tasty! For someone who loves their animal-based proteins, I wasn’t missing much on the nights we went meat-free.

On my weight-loss challenge, I’m only down about 2 lbs, but I do feel like I’m starting to lose inches before I actually shed the weight. My clothes are fitting better and I’m looking leaner, so I don’t think the number that determines my gravitational pull to the Earth is really something I’m going to worry about while I work on being healthy.

I’ve got a lot of things to do and projects to work on, so I’ll be back this weekend with updates! So many errands to run and things to do!

Sweets!

I’m fully convinced I’m going through sugar withdrawals.

Someone at work challenged me to go 10 days without sugar and see how I feel after. It’s day 2 and I’m not going to lie: the cravings are intense! Thankfully, for some reason, hot tea is helping quash the cravings, so I’m probably going to drink a LOT of tea this week.

It’s amazing how the impulse to rummage through the cupboard is, trying to find something to replace the sugar. It’s going to be a LONG week. Sad smile

You’re Doing WHAT?

This weekend, I’ve decided I’m going semi-vegan. I know, I know, it’s kind of a cop-out to go “semi”, but I don’t do well doing things cold-turkey. Meaning, I’m slowly going to start adding meatless, dairy-free, sugar-free and oil-free selections to my weekly menu. The reason? Obviously, I’ve done the mostly-vegetarian thing before, and I’ve never felt better. I love the clean feeling I get and the bursts of energy I feel from eating a clean diet. I also don’t have the time some nights to sit around an wait for meat to cook (I get home around 7:30 sometimes, and it’s just not working for me). Lastly, I’m sick to death of plain, boring salads at work, and healthy leftovers are becoming my preference! (Vegetable dishes make exponentially more food).

Okay, maybe it’s not such a huge jump…giving up my beloved chocolate. I’ve done the no-sugar thing before, and I can certainly do it again.

So that’s been the weekend. I’m going to be sticking inside, hiding in the air-conditioning while the rest of So Cal roasts in the 100+ degree heat…(cringe).

Semi-Domesticated

I’ve been on the run this week, working my butt off so I have the extra to pay for school books. Trigonometry. I’m not going to go into it, I’m not sure why P.A.s have to understand calculus, and why I have to take Trig when I’ve taken Stats. That’s 3 upper-level math classes for a medical degree…go figure.

Anywhoo (yes, anywhoo), after all the working and toiling away I’ve been doing, I found myself really making an effort to make my space home. I’m coming up with some color-coordinating ideas, have some furniture picked out, and I’m ready to make my living room functional.

Here are the beginnings of my layout…not professional, I know, but hopefully it’ll make things a LOT more comfortable. The creative side of me is just thinking about all the colors and patterns and fun I can have with it all. That interior design class is going to come in handy!
